Art Programs at Cardinal Pacelli

A Note from Art Teacher Ms. Rogenski!

Hello Pacelli Families!

Now that we have settled in to the school year, I am writing to introduce myself to you if we have not yet had a chance to meet, and to fill you in on what’s happening in the Art Room. I’ll list by category for a quick read!

Artsonia
If you haven’t seen it, www.artsonia.com is the world’s largest online student gallery and we have an account. It’s a two-fold and brilliant method for sharing your child’s artwork with out-of-town friends and family, AND a way to raise funds for the art room (to be used for materials and equipment not able to be purchased through traditional school funds). Once you approve your child’s account, you and anyone with whom you share the account information can purchase gifts featuring your child’s art. Its great for holidays, birthdays, Mother’s Day, and every day. Please note your child’s account details such as name, codes for purchasing, and personal details are
not available to the public. All artwork will be uploaded, but it is ONLY visible to others with your approval. Please reach out if you have questions!
Kindergarten families and new Pacelli families have received an email regarding your child's account directly from Artsonia. THANK YOU to the parent volunteers that donate time to come in and upload student artwork!

Art Portfolios
Every student will keep flat artwork at school and take home at the end of the year in an art portfolio. I love the pride the students have in creating a portfolio of work! If at any time, for any reason, you need me to send art home with your child before the last art day – please let me know! Otherwise, you can view it online as we get work loaded to Artsonia.

Hyde Park Art Show
Cardinal Pacelli is participating in the Hyde Park Art Show with 20 entries. Artwork was selected at the end of last school year, and those families of children with artwork in the show will be contacted with details. The show takes place from 10-5 on Sunday October 2nd in Hyde Park Square, and a brief awards ceremony happens at 2pm. Please make plans to see the show!

Art Grades
Assessment for art is standards based in grades K-3 using three basic skill sets: understanding concepts, completing work, and participating. This will be tracked and then entered on the Report Card in Renweb at the end of each Trimester. Grades 4-8 will have letter grades in addition to the standards. Assessment in grades 4-8 is based on four categories: Craftsmanship, Creativity, Function/Following Directions and Time/Effort. Please reach out to me with questions about grades.

Donations
For now we are all set with donations of old containers, etc for the art room. I will make a note in the Post if we need anything specific. Thanks so much for reading this far, and for entrusting your kids to our school and classrooms. I LOVE the joy of creating with kids. Every day, we make something beautiful that reflects the beauty of our Creator!

Congrats to Pacelli Artists!

Congratulations to the following students who will be representing Cardinal Pacelli School at the Hyde Park Art Show! Artwork was selected in May.
The Art Show takes place in Hyde Park Square, from 10-5pm on Sunday, October 2nd. There will be a small awards ceremony at 2pm. Well done, Amazing Artists!!

Jelly Bean Mosaic Tells a Story

Picture
We are proud to share the completed 2021-2022 Jelly Bean Mosaic created by the first and second grade students. Over the course of about 4 weeks, the students worked with Emilie Rouse, Sarah Fisher and Megan Stagnaro to glue down and strategically place each individual jelly bean (and sample a few) on a design created by Jill Giles.

The final work of art, entitled “Via Crucis” depicts scenes from the stations of the cross. Each detail was carefully crafted to bring it together, including the chocolate sprinkle crown of thorns worn by “Jelly Bean Jesus”.

Upon completion, the large 24x36 mosaic was framed and is hung in the cafeteria along with those created in previous years.

This project was a fun (and delicious) way to prepare for Easter and reignition of a Cardinal Pacelli tradition. Great job to all of the 1st and 2nd graders! Stop by the cafeteria to see these wonderful creations.

Congratulations to Past Hyde Park Art Show Participants!
